Making fine walking
sticks from hedgerow woods
With Peter Snelson learn how to find and identify the best materials for
making walking sticks in hedgerow, woodland and garden. Peter will advise
on how sticks are seasoned and shaped and, depending on your choice of stick
to make in the class - thumb stick, walker or knob stick - he will show
you how to use the appropriate tools and techniques to complete a finely
crafted stick. The instruction will cover finishes like oil, varnish and
wax and more exotic materials like antler, horn and bone. Tools and a stock
of hardwood shafts will be provided. Two sticks are usually made in the days workshop.
