Making a Blackdown splint basket
This localised version of the traditional West Country splint basket, which was used on farms for carrying potatoes, turnips, etc., has many uses around the garden where a strong and handy receptacle is needed. Using goat willow from the Blackdown hills Martin will show you how the bottom, hoops, handle and splints were made in the traditional way using a drawknife and shave horse. Tools and materials will be supplied and you will assemble your own Blackdown splint basket to take home.
Dates for 2009 to be arranged.
